Aesthetic Fiber Retainers
Patients of any age can benefit from orthodontic treatment, which can improve the harmony of their smile and optimize various oral functions, including chewing, speaking, breathing, and swallowing.
Modern orthodontics allows adults to correct dental misalignments—such as gaps, crowding, or missing teeth—using clear aligner systems. These custom-made, nearly invisible aligners can help you achieve a balanced and attractive smile within a few months.
However, some tooth movements may be limited with aligners and could require traditional multi-bracket orthodontic treatment (braces) to achieve the desired results.
A bonded fiber retainer combines pre-impregnated glass fibers with a high-density composite.
Its purpose is to prevent unwanted tooth movement—especially after orthodontic treatment—reduce tooth mobility in cases of compromised periodontal support (periodontal retention), or compensate for a missing tooth (splinting with an addition).
The retainer is placed on the inner surface of the upper and lower front teeth, from canine to canine.
It is adjustable, repairable, and simply bonded to the dental arch.
Other retention options may also be offered to maintain tooth position, such as a thin metal wire bonded to the inner surface of the teeth (standard orthodontic retainer) or a removable night-time tray.
These alternatives are considered when an aesthetic bonded fiber retainer is not feasible.
