Wisdom teeth and tooth extractions

Severe damage to a tooth caused by a large cavity, fracture, or extensive damage to surrounding tissues may require the dentist to extract the tooth.

This is especially true for wisdom teeth, which are difficult to clean due to their position and can interfere with orthodontic treatment. The main reasons for removing wisdom teeth are often lack of space in the dental arch or poor positioning.

The procedure begins with local anesthesia to ensure it is completely pain-free. The dentist then removes the tooth along with its root, cleans any infection, and sutures the area to guide proper healing of the tissues.

A follow-up visit is recommended to check the healing process.

Once the soft and hard tissues have fully healed, the dentist can discuss possible replacement options for the extracted tooth except for wisdom teeth, which typically do not require replacement.
